Launch Day Recap!
What a day! Just in case you didn’t know…today was the first day of Lifepointe Church – Downtown in the Lincoln Theatre in Downtown Raleigh. It was really exciting and I really believe God has started some really big things here.
For our first day we had around 230 people in attendance, which is really great considering our seating. We max out at around 175 per service.
For our offering today we wanted to let everyone know how important serving our community is to us by giving 100% of every first time gift (people who came from the other sites didn’t count) back to the community through 2 downtown organizations that we have been serving with for about a year now, Love Wins & Neighbor 2 Neighbor. We aren’t sure how much that is yet, but will be letting them know as soon as we find out.
I can’t say enough about our volunteers today. Everything was handled incredibly and really went off without any major hitches.
Our children’s areas went great. The way we have our kids broken up is that the nursery (ages 0-2) is upstairs
Our 3-6 year olds are in our Fun Bus, which is an old school bus that we have completely renovated. We gutted it,carpeted it, installed heat/ac, painted it and this week are getting a local graffiti artist to paint it. It’s really cool.
And our 7-10 year olds actually hang out in the service with the adults, but they get their own backpack with a message geared towards them and crafts and activities so they can participate during the message as well. They were parent and kid approved today!
My favorite part of this morning was when a young 2o something came up to me with glossy eyes and said, “you guys have nothing to worry about here…you’re going to reach people who haven’t been reached and who wouldn’t be reached if it weren’t for what you’re doing here.” Or maybe it was when a young person in their 50’s told me that their favorite part was just that they feel like it was right…that they feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves here. Or maybe it was having both sets of mine and Cynthia’s parents start crying before they entered the building. Or maybe seeing the Twitter world in Raleigh blow up with announements of Lifepointe Downtown launching from people who don’t even go to church…or even like church really. Or maybe hearing people say, “Church in the Lincoln…that’s unexpected!”
To be honest…my greatest excitement is knowing that because of all the hard work over the past year and half, and all of the hard work that will continue after today, more people will be connected to God. And that is what it’s all about.
